Some bus fares in the Burnham-On-Sea area are set to increase

-

Some bus fares in Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and the surrounding area are set to change from July 21st.

Bus operator First has announced that tickets bought on board will remain the same but for the first time since 2015 there will be an increase for pre-paid tickets, including First’s popular mTicket app, PayPoint and Payzone stores, metrobus iPoints, online and First’s travel shops.

The firm has reassured users that, despite this change, pre-paid tickets still offer the best value.

A  guide to the new bus ticket prices from 21 July 2019 has been published.

West of England Zone fares will change from £3.50 to £3.85 for Single journeys bought through mTickets and Payzone, and from £6.00 to £6.60 for a Day ticket.

Week, Month and Year ticket prices will also change, with the best value option for monthly travel remaining First’s Unlimited ticket, which enables customers to save 5% on the Month ticket price, by paying by Direct Debit.

Children under 5 still travel for free, whilst children from 5 to 15 save up to 50% off adult fares and young people from 16 to 21 and students continue to save up to 30%.

The new prices start on Sunday 21st July and all tickets bought before this date will continue to be valid until their expiry date.

Rob Pymm, Commercial Director at First West of England, explained: “The new fares are essential in helping us continue to improve our service across the West of England region, as we aim to encourage more people to use public transport. Our recent investments have included 77 new state of the art bio-methane buses for Bristol, which together with recent investment in retro-fitted Euro VI engines means we’ll soon have more than 250 buses in our fleet that meet the highest European emission standards.”

“We have worked hard to keep the increases to a minimum and our pre-paid fares still offer the best value and are the best way to speed up the boarding process and keep journey times down. Pre-paid ticket prices have been the same for a number of years, and our data shows customers get great value from our season tickets, with an example being our Bristol Zone Month ticket fare, which costs just £1.34 per journey based on typical use”.
