Proposals for another big new solar energy farm near Burnham-On-Sea which will be large enough to power over 500 homes have been unveiled this week.
The 10,000-panel solar farm on land next to Yardwall Road in the village of Mark will cover a 12-acre site.
Developer Hadstone Energy, which already runs the larger solar energy farm at nearby Watchfield, has submitted a formal application to Sedgemoor District Council for the proposals this week.
James Rowe, director of Hadstone Energy, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This site would be our smallest in Somerset and would be about a quarter the size of the Watchfield solar farm and would generate 3MWp of renewable electricity.”
One local resident, Harry Crowther, has raised his opposition to the project, saying: “The Mark area is subject to too much ‘power related issues’ such as solar panels at Watchfield and Pill Road plus the imposition of potential extra large ‘T’ pylons across the fields for the Avonmouth to Hinkley link.”
“I do not want this solar farm built at the end of our lane. This area is deemed a ‘special landscape area’ and the lane is too narrow for large lorries… which will cause damage. There will also be light pollution by the use of flood and spot lights.”
Local residents can submit feedback on the application – number 33/14/00024 – to Sedgemooor District Council before the deadline of August 22nd. Further details are available from Hadstone Energy.
If approved, the site would become be the latest in the area. Burnham-On-Sea.com has previously featured the huge solar energy farms in Watchfield and Wedmore and planned at Rooksbridge.
