Highbridge school’s pupils travel to Holland for football visit

-

Over 40 pupils from Highbridge’s King Alfred School have returned from a five-day visit to Holland.

A total of 45 students travelled by coach to Valkenburg in Holland to take part in the school’s bi-annual football tour.

During the trip the sudents also visited Phantasialand Theme Park in Germany, took a tour of the Philips stadium, home of PSV Eindhoven, went ten-pin bowling, took part in two football training sessions and played six matches against Dutch club sides.

The school’s Peter Harris told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The boys were a credit to the school and conducted themselves superbly throughout the trip. The owners of the Hotel Amsterdam in Valkenburg said they were both polite and well behaved. The boys thanked them for their hospitality.”

He added: “The A team, including the youngest tourists, managed a win and a loss from their 2 matches. The B side, including year 9 and 10 students, remained unbeaten, drawing a game and winning a nine goal thriller. The C team, including some experienced tour players, also avoided defeat by drawing and winning their matches.”

The youngsters have also thanked football clubs RKVVL Polaris, Geusseult Sports, RKVVM Margraten and Sibbe for hosting the football matches, and their sponsors T J Dyer Electrical Services Ltd, L and H Plumbing & Heating and Somerset Mortgage Brokers for helping fund the tour tracksuit tops and polo shirts.
