Motorists warned of icy roads as fresh snow falls in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Police warned motorists in Burnham-On-Sea to take extra care after fresh snow fell overnight and on Wednesday (January 23rd).

Several centimetres of snow covered the town, melted and then froze, leaving picturesque scenes like the one above at St Andrew’s Church – but also causing hazardous road conditions and slippery pavements.

The Met Office predicts temperatures will only climb to 3°C today, with further light snow to come.

Main roads have been cleared and gritted in the Burnham area by Somerset County Council to try and minimise travel disruption, but many minor roads are untreated.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to transport during this spell of wintry weather.”

The freezing conditions are expected to continue until later this week. Temperatures will rise to 7°C on Saturday.
