At first glance it looked as though snow and ice had been washed up along Burnham-On-Sea’s tideline on Monday (Christmas Eve) despite the mild temperatures.
Banks of white material were washed up along the river estuary next to Burnham beach on Monday afternoon, as pictured here, puzzling some beach walkers.
But the foam is in fact believed to be a natural substance created after recent stormy sea conditions.
The Environment Agency, which monitors water quality in Bridgwater Bay, has said the material is harmless.
