MP and Mayor back Burnham campaign to ‘shop local this Christmas’

-

Burnham-On-Sea residents are being encouraged to ‘shop local’ and support town centre shops this Christmas.

Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade, MP James Heappey and Mayor Michael Clarke have this week issued a rallying call to coincide with Small Business Saturday, which takes place this weekend to encourage consumers to support small local businesses.

“Independent shops and small businesses are the lifeblood of Burnham’s town centre – there’s a great range of gifts and products available and we encourage residents to ‘shop local’ this Christmas and give them as much support as poossible,” said a Burnham Chamber of Trade spokesman.

MP James Heappey added: “Burnham’s small businesses are a very important part of the town centre, creating many jobs and providing a real service to the community.”

“Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to promote local business and support local people. Small businesses are a vital part of the local economy and it’s important that we recognise the fantastic work they do.”

To mark Small Business Saturday, Burnham’s Chamber of Trade has compiled a leaflet featuring offers and promotions from town centre businesses.

“The leaflet is available to download to show some of the discounts, special offers, product launches and promotions which are available this Saturday only. Hundreds of paper copies of the leaflet have also been distributed in the town centre and at the recent Burnham Christmas Lights switch-on,” added a Chamber spokesman.
