200 revellers celebrated the New Year on the final evening of a night club in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea.
As first reported last month by Burnham-On-Sea.com here, Skye Bar in the High Street closed for the final time on December 31st.
Owners George and Katie Panayi have been running clubs and bars for 10 years and say now is the right time for a change. They are switching their attention to running their other business, The Galley Cafe.
George told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The final evening was a fantastic success, albeit a bit emotional.”
“We had a full capacity of 200 in the club – there was a great atmosphere and lots of people told us how sad they are to see us going. It was a lovely way to finish things.”
He added: “Our decision to leave was very difficult as the club means the world to us both. Shakers/SkyeBar will always hold a special place in my heart – it was at Shakers where I first met my wife Katie back in 2004.”
“We would like to thank all our loyal customers and friends. Your support over the last four years has been amazing. We would also like to say a massive thank you to all our wonderful staff that have worked with us over the years. It has been a pleasure working with you all. Thank you so much for making Skye Bar a success.”
The couple took over the club four years ago and transformed it from the former Shakers night club. The club will be closed while a new owner is sought.
