Millions of TV viewers watched live speedway racing from Highbridge’s Oak Tree Arena on Monday evening (May 31st).

The Premier League match between the Somerset Rebels and Sheffield Tigers was broadcast live on Sky Sports 1 – and was only the third event to ever be televised from the track.

A big crowd turned out to watch the contest, and while the spectators got to see some exciting action it all ended in disappointment for the home crowd with Sheffield winning 40-53.

Sky’s reporters interviewed the riders at trackside, while the presenters commentated on the action from a gantry overlooking the track.

Several miles of cables and a field full of satellite trucks were also located outside the entrance to the track.

Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Despite the disappointing result, it’s been a great evening and it was fantastic to have Sky here again to add to the excitement.”
