Millions of TV viewers will get a chance to watch live speedway racing from Burnham-On-Sea’s Oak Tree Arena in August.
The Somerset Rebels will play host to the Sky Sports cameras on Monday August 9th for a live transmission of a Premier League match between the Rebels and Glasgow Tigers – their second event to be televised.
“This is a great honour,” Somerset Rebels co-promoter Debbie Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday.
“I know the guys from Sky TV were very impressed with the first meeting they broadcast from the Oak Tree Arena last season and really wanted to return this year to show another Somerset match.”
Fans will be able to see top riders including Joe Screen and Travis McGowan up against the Rebels’ Cory Gathercole, Shane Parker and Sam Masters during the encounter.
Debbie added: “With Glasgow originally due to visit Somerset the previous Friday, we are considering leaving that date open rather than put our fans to the expense of having two home matches within three days.”
“As the terms of our lease with the Council does not permit us to run two matches in the same week, it will mean that our home match against Newport scheduled for Friday 13th August will have to be re-arranged and we will announce the new date for that match as soon as it has been agreed with the Newport promotion.”
