National publicity for Burnham hovercraft as Sky News comes to town

Burnham’s hovercraft received national TV publicity on Monday August 22nd when Sky News broadcast a report about the work of the life-saving service.

Burnham's hovercraft on Sky NewsThe three-minute feature about The Spirit of Lelaina and its crew of volunteers was broadcast every hour between 6am and 10am and came a day after Sky News reporter Andrew Moore visited the group.

The Sky News camera crew took footage of the craft skimming across the mud at Burnham and Berrow and also clambered aboard to get shots from inside the craft.

They also filmed Burnham’s Coastguard Mud Rescue Team who were taking part in an exercise at Berrow.

Alan Miller being interviewed by the Sky NewsAlan Miller, Chairman of BARB, the group that runs the hovercraft, explained the reasons behind launching the service following the tragic death of Lelaina Hall in 2002.

And pilot Pete Emery was interviewed about the difficulty of steering and ‘driving’ the craft.

Sky News is seen in seven million homes across the UK and is also broadcast around the world via satellite TV.
