Town’s skateboarders propose improvements to Burnham skate park

-

More than 20 skateboarders flocked to a meeting of Burnham-On-Sea Youth Town Council on Thursday night (May 11th) to discuss how to improve the town’s skating facilities.

Town councillor Louise Parkin, who was at the meeting, said it had been a “highly productive” evening with many positive ideas proposed by the youngsters to improve the existing facilities at Apex Leisure Park.

“We learned a lot of about what skaters think,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“A number of good suggestions were put forward. Among them was introducing a line of trees to act as a windbreak against strong onshore winds; raising the height of the fence around the park to increase security; changing the times that the flood lights are on; filling in some of the sides of ramps to avoid people getting underneath; and introducing CCTV cameras.”

The Youth Town Council is to hold a further follow-up meeting with Sedgemoor District Council in the next few weeks to investigate how the suggestions can be taken forward.

The meeting came after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported in February how several residents along the seafront had complained about noise from skateboarders.
