Sedgemoor District Council has this week unveiled its plans to give the skate park at Highbridge’s Apex Park a £73,000 overhaul.
As we reported here in March, the council intends to replace the current facilities this summer using developer funds.
The Apex skate park equipment, which was originally installed in 2002, has reached the end of its useful life and requires replacement.
£72,994 will be spent on the upgrade, with £58,395.20 coming from RLT3 developer funds for outdoor sport. Sedgemoor District Council is remaining funding required.
The work includes a new Half Pipe, Quarter Pipe, Planter, Wedge Flats, Bank Ramps and Pyramid Corner Ramp. Floodlighting will also be reinstated.
A contractor, Jupiter Play, will be delivering the project using fastener-free ramps which provide a ‘smooth riding experience’ and require little on-going maintenance and also have a long life expectancy.
“It’s expected that the skate park will be closed for up to one month to allow the old ramps to be removed, patching-up of the surface to take place and new ramps to be installed,” a council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We will communicate closure dates nearer the time through Burnham-On-Sea.com and posters displayed on-site. Subject to weather conditions, the skate park upgrade should be completed by early August 2014.”
