The Singing Children of Africa have been impressing large audiences across the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area with a week of performances.
The children, from a locally-run charity called Educate the Kids, are all pupils at the organisation’s school in a poor area of Mombasa, Kenya.
During a fundraising visit to Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge they performed at The Princess Theatre on Friday in front of a packed audience that included MP James Heappey, Mayor and Mayoress Andy and Lorna Brewer, and Deputy Mayors Nick Tolley and Bill Hancock.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, the Mayor said after Friday’s performance: “The children have been wonderful – they have impressed and inspired audiences whenever they have sung in our area.”
“It is so humbling to listen to them and hear about their backgrounds and aspirations.”
The children have also performed at King Alfred School Academy, West Huntspill School, Brent Knoll School, Churchfield School, St John’s Church, St Joseph’s School, St Andrew’s School and Cribbs Causeway in Bristol.
The Mayor added: “My thanks go to organiser Sue Stevens and all the hosts and supporters.”
The school educates over 700 children, many of whom are sponsored by individuals and organisations in the Burnham area. For further details, visit www.educatethekids.com
