Storm-damaged signs spruced up for summer on Burnham seafront

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor, Peter Clayton, installed one of several refurbished signs along the town’s seafront this week as work to spruce them up for the summer holiday period was completed.

A winter of storms and high winds had left many of the Esplanade’s signs looking worse for wear, so work began in February on refurbishing them in time for the tourist season.

Mayor Peter Clayton and his fiance, Mayoress Jo Burridge, decided to save the town council – and tax payers – several hundred pounds by repainting the signs and replacing their metal exteriors for free.

Cllr Clayton added: “The finger posts were in much worse condition than we first thought and all had to be stripped right down to the metal. The salt water had got under the old paint, but the end result is superb and we’re happy to have helped.”
