A unique arts project is set to bring theatrical performances into shops in Burnham-On-Sea this Saturday (April 16th).
Burnham-On-Sea will play host to six professional actors staging 48 free live performances in shops across the town centre.
The countdown to the ‘Trading Local’ event has begun with the organisers from the Show of Strength Theatre Company announcing the 12 winning scripts.
Co-organiser Selina Keedwell said: “It’s been a tense few weeks for nearly 30 writers, waiting to hear which scripts will receive a professional production in Burnham-On-Sea’s high street shops on 16th April.”
“There was a great response from local writers, ranging from those who had never written before to those with more experience – sharing knowledge and ideas.”
Co-organiser Jacqui Strong added: “Choosing was no easy task as the calibre of all the entries was extremely high.”
“The full list of selected scripts is funny, sad, strange and astonishing – but all with a great story to tell.”
They include scripts by Richard Baum, Anita Comerford, Brian Humphreys, Ian Bussell, Jane Lee, Kim Cook, Jacqui Strong, Lucy Thomas, Rebecca Strickland, Kim Lewis and Selina Keedwell.
A full programme for Saturday 16th April form 10am – 4.30pm is available online here.
The project is being organised in association with Burnham Community Theatre Group, supported by Burnham-On-Sea & Highbridge Town Council, Sedgemoor District Council, Co-op Funeral Care and Take Art. The group has also involved Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade and Commerce in setting up the event.
