A night club in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea is set to re-open next weekend with brand new managers.
Shakers in the High Street has been closed for over a year since being put up for sale in July 2008.
But Weston couple Tracey Coopland and Glen Howard told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week they plan to re-open the club on Saturday, August 15th.
The pair, pictured below, say they have lots of ideas to make the night spot a success. “We plan to make it an entertainment facility for the whole community,” revealed Tracey.
“We’re planning to hold line dancing classes, karaoke nights and themed music nights with 70s, 80s and 90s hits, so Shakers will be of interest to lots of age groups. We’re open to other suggestions on what people would like us to organise.”
She stressed that the club would be operating a strict anti-drug policy and will also be stamping down on any anti-social behaviour.
“We’re working closely with Burnham police on drug enforcement and have held several very positive disussions with them already.”
Tracey is a previous pub landlady and Glen is a former doorman. “We have been in the pub trade for over 10 years and fancy a change. Both of us have been interested in running a club, so this is a great opportunity,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
She added: “We want to create a relaxed atmosphere and lots of work is underway to ensure the club can open on time. We’re still waiting for final licensing approval, but I expect this to come through any day.”
The club will not be changing its name. Shakers hit the headlines in 2006 when its previous owners applied for a license to hold lap dancing sessions.
