Garden centre near Burnham-On-Sea receives access award

-

Staff at a garden centre near Burnham-On-Sea were celebrating today (Monday, December 21st) after being presented with an award to highlight the access available for less able people in its restaurant.

Sanders Garden World’s Lemon Grove restaurant in Brent Knoll has been recognised for its accessibility in the category for places to eat out in the Accessible Somerset Awards 2009.

Dan Williams, manager of the restaurant, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted to have been acknowledged for our restaurant’s accessibility. We are proud to provide a service that everyone can enjoy.”

The award was judged by people with disabilities who went out into the community to find out which organisations or businesses provide the best accessibility in the Somerset area.

It was recently presented to the garden centre by the Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Councillor Jane Moreton.

Cllr Moreton added: “It is very important for businesses in the county to provide excellent accessibility to people with disabilities and I am really pleased that Sanders GardenWorld is doing its part. The garden centre’s restaurant was particularly praised for the helpfulness of the staff.”

The Accessible Somerset Awards is a scheme that has been established in partnership with Somerset County Council, Mendip District Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council, Sedgemoor District Council, South Somerset District Council, West Somerset Council and Compass Disability Services.

The aim of the Awards is to raise awareness about accessibility issues and recognise organisations that have made improvements in providing an excellent service for disabled people.
