Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s School wins Sedgemoor swim gala

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s School has made a big splash by winning the Sedgemoor Schools Primary Swimming Gala this week.

The eighth annual event, which took place at Burnham Swim & Sports Academy on Thursday (April 27th) was attended by five schools across the district.

The academy’s Sara Cox-Conklin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Everyone at the Academy would like to say a huge thank you to all heads, teachers and support staff for making the 8th Sedgemoor Schools Primary Swimming Gala such a great success.”

“The Academy could obviously not run this event without your support and we cannot thank you enough for allowing your swimmers the opportunity to take part.”

“We were extremely proud to watch first-hand the passion the swimmers had for racing and ‘giving it a go’, whether they touched first or last they represented themselves, the school and the community impeccably. Without a doubt the standard & speed of swimming is getting faster and faster every year.”

“The atmosphere in the pool hall, and spectator gallery was once again unbelievable – the support from your teams family and friends was the loudest I have heard in over 8 years! It was fantastic to see so much community spirit with as much cheer and support for our 5th place swimmers as for our 1st place award winners.”

“Congratulations go to Woolavington, attending the gala for the very first time. The entire team put in some fantastic performances, with a total of 4 individual wins & 2 relay wins (4 races being won by their Year 3’s!) & capturing 82 points, – Woolavington will certainly be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years!”

“Brent Knoll have seen great improvements across the whole team since their debut gala last year. With a victory in the boys Yr 4 Breastroke, and strong performances throughout, Brent Knoll were battling it out for 3rd place overall throughout the gala finishing in a very strong 4th place with 99 points.”

“Churchfield swam phenomenally and achieved their highest placing since the Sedgemoor Schools gala started, ending up on the podium in 3rd place. Churchfield secured a total of 4 x 1st places in the Yr 4 butterfly (girls & boys), Yr 4 backstroke & Year 4 relay and finished with 108 points.”

“St Joseph’s put in another great display of swimming with a very strong team. They got off to a fantastic start taking the Girls Yr 6 freestyle win & pushed St Andrews throughout the gala. St Joseph’s secured a total of 9 wins, & 13 x 2nd places, finishing with 143 points.”

“And so, to our winners for a phenomenal 8th year in a row – the incredibly talented team of swimmers from St Andrew’s Junior School who won 21 x 1st places and an outstanding points total of 172! Congratulations St Andrews, our Sedgemoor School Swimming Champions for 2017.”

“Once again, we cannot thank you enough for taking the time to organise all the logistics that allowed the children to participate in the gala. We really appreciate all of your support.”
