Credit crunch hits donations at Burnham-On-Sea wildlife charity

-

A wildlife charity based near Burnham-On-Sea is feeling the effects of the credit crunch, with donations falling by tens of thousands of pounds.

Secret World at East Huntspill says the “worrying” fall in donations has come during a busy period for the charity following the recent cold spell.

Founder Pauline Kidner said in a TV interview this week: “It really is worrying – we’ve had far more animals than ever before coming in and during the past couple of months our donations have been down by £50,000.”

The charity has been dealing with double the number of hedgehogs it usually sees following a particularly harsh winter.

Secret World is the only 24 hour wildlife rescue centre in the South West, annually caring for over 4,000 sick, injured and orphaned animals. It has running costs in excess of £1,300 per day.
