Poor weather means animal carers at Secret World Wildlife Rescue centre, near Burnham-On-Sea, are being kept busy with an influx of hedgehogs and birds and they have this week appealed for donations of cat food and kitchen roll to keep up with their demands.
“Demand has exceeded supply and we are completely out of commodities to top and tail – cat food for one end and kitchen roll for the other,” said charity founder Pauline Kidner.
“A huge influx of hedgehogs, garden and seabirds have exhausted supplies. Because of the catastrophic wet weather, we are almost running out of room for all the casualties that have come into our care.”
“It is ironic that we need cat food to feed the many casualties that come to us as the majority are here as a result of being caught by cats.”
Meanwhile, Secret World will be holding its final open weekend of the year over the Bank Holiday weekend and visitors are being invited to bring tins of cat food and kitchen roll with them.
“We will be open from 10.00am – 4pm each day, with daily animal displays, ferret racing and on Sunday there will be a display by Canine Capers, the dog display team.”
