A helicopter, Coastguards, lifeboats and police launched a huge search for a person suspected to be in the sea between Weston Pier and Brean Down last night (Saturday).
This was the scene as the helicopter used its search light to scour the waters near the pier at 11pm.
Crews searched a large area of the bay in blustery, stormy conditions after a person was reported to have been seen in the water, but no-one was found.
A Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We believe this was a false alarm with good intent.”
“No-one has been reported missing, which was good given the sad news around the country during recent days.”
