A seal was washed up on Berrow beach on Thursday (December 29th), but sadly nothing could be done to save it.
The body of the young mammal was washed ashore on the morning high tide between Berrow’s shipwreck and the beach lighthouse.
Sedgemoor District Council’s Resort Officer, Graham Newing, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s sad when seals are washed up like this. Our clean surroundings team will remove the body as soon as possible.”
It is not the first time that seals have been washed ashore in the Burnham area – often alive. In November 2010, a baby seal was rescued from Burnham beach.
And a common seal was washed up on the beach at Brean in 2008 and a young seal pup was also found alive on Berrow beach in November 2005.
