Large grey seal removed from Burnham-On-Sea beach

-

A large grey seal was washed up on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach on Friday afternoon (June 13th).

The dead animal, pictured here, weighed approximately 150kg and was spotted near the high tide line by a walker as the sea receded.

BARB, the Burnham-based rescue charity, was notified and one of its crew helped wildlife experts from Secret World to remove the animal.

Secret World’s Pauline Kidner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a large grey seal that sadly seemed to have been dead for some time.”

It is not the first time that marine animals have been washed ashore in recent years. A porpoise was washed up on Burnham beach in July last year and a young seal pup was found alive on Berrow beach in November 2005.
