Seal washed ashore in storms rescued from Brean Beach
Animal rescuers from Burnham-On-Sea have recounted how they treated a young seal pup, pictured above, which was washed ashore on Brean Beach.
The stricken animal was found by walkers who called on local animal rescue volunteers from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre to help.
The team retrieved the young grey seal, which was only six weeks old, and took it back to their centre for treatment.
It was the first time they have dealt with a seal since setting up their operation some 19 years ago.
Secret World’s animal care manager, Ellie West, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “One of our supporters called us because he’d heard the seal calling from the beach.”
“The seal was some way out on a sand bank and had been there some time. He was completely exhausted, having tried to get back to the sea unsuccessfully. It was lucky that the public contacted us to let us know.”
“He’s doing fine now – we’re just awaiting the results of some blood tests, but are hopeful that he will be released soon.”
