July 20th switch-on for Burnham’s £30,000 seafront lights
Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront illuminations will officially be switched on at 8.30pm on Wednesday July 20th, it was confirmed this week.
A “very well-known Somerset character who is no stranger to camera flash bulbs” will hit the switch at the event, according to Cllr Neville Jones who is organising the event.
A total of 27 lights will be switched on between the Reed’s Arms and St Andrew’s Church.
A further 15 lights between the town’s jetty and Yacht Club will be switched on at a later date.
Cllr Jones confirmed that the lights will be in place until after Christmas and that they will be illuminated each night at dusk until approximately 12 midnight.
Earlier in the year, the County Council had withdrawn permission for the lights to be installed after finding that 16 posts did not meet safety standards.
