Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront to close during Sunday’s triathlon

-

Parts of Burnham-On-Sea seafront and adjoining roads will be closed to traffic on Sunday morning (April 25th) when the town’s spring triathlon is held.

The ‘Super Sprint Triathlon’, organised by Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, will see competitors swimming 250m (10 lengths of the pool), cycling 10km and running 2.5km along the beach and Esplanade.

“The whole of the Esplanade and Seaview Road will be closed to traffic during the event beteen 6am and 9am,” organiser Martin Rogers told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“All access roads onto The Esplanade will also be closed, so residents who require the use of their vehicle during these times should ensure it is parked outside this closure zone. Roads will be open to emergency vehicles only.”

He added that for all residents living south of Morrisons there will be a one-way system in operation. Vehicles leaving the Steart Drive area will be directed down the access road behind Morrisons to Pier Street.

“It should be an exciting spectacle for the town and we encourage people to come out and watch it. We hope it does not cause too much inconvenience early on a Sunday morning,” added Mr Rogers.

Letters warning about the closures have been posted through the doors of hundreds of homes along the seafront and signs have been installed along the Esplanade. More than 140 competitors will be taking part.
