A five-week project to halt corrosion on part of Burnham-On-Sea’s sea defences is underway by the Environment Agency this month.
The agency has cordoned off part of the Esplanade while it carries out work to repair rusting sections of metal sheet piles either side of The Pavilion.
“Recent investigations showed that the sea defences in this location need improving,” an Environment Agency spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We are painting the sheet piles to prevent further corrosion and carrying out other repairs to ensure the existing sea defences continue to offer protection from flooding to Burnham-On-Sea.”
Building firm Raymond Brown was awarded the contract for the work earlier this year and is scheduled to complete the work during December.
A section of Burnham’s Esplanade to the north of the Pavilion has been closed while the work is underway.
“Inevitably, there will be some minor disruption to users of the area around the Pavilion, but we will keep this to a minimum,” the spokesman added.
