This group of Burnham-On-Sea Sea Cadets has plenty of reasons to smile after winning a leading regional drill competition at the weekend.
Following their success in 2011, when Burnham’s unit, TS Dulverton, lifted the National Drill trophy in the Colour Party competition, they are this year entered into the larger, unarmed drill competition.
On Sunday, they successfully took part in the Somerset and Dorset district level competition at RNAS Yeovilton.
Commanding Officer Bob Silverthorne Lt (SCC) RNR told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The nerve of the cadets held strong and not only did they win the overall competition section but they also swept the board, winning best dressed cadets.”
The cadets were OC Steph Yates – Winner, POC Corey Hayes, OC Imogen Howard and Cdt Timon Massarella – Joint runner-up, while the best squad commander was POC Matt Tutton.
“The South West Area competition, to be held at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth next month, is a tall order at the first attempt, but is a certainly a challenge that the cadets and staff of TS Dulverton are prepared to accept and, whatever the outcome, they will continue to bring pride to our unit.”
The unit is based in Cassis Close, Burnham, and is open to 10-12 year olds on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm and 12-18 year-olds on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7-9.30pm. For more details, call 01278 781028, email here or drop in on a parade night.
