-

Community groups in Burnham-On-Sea and across the district are to benefit from over £6,000 of grant funding, thanks to the latest round of grants being given out by Sedgemoor District Council.

The council has this week announced that £1,300 will go to Burnham-On-Sea’s BOS Events to help fund a weekend event featuring a Viking re-enactment group.

It will take place on 12th and 13th August and will see historic battles being recreated on the town’s beach.

The council is also giving £500 to Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Choral Society to support their 2017 Spring Concert.

The event will take place at St Johns Church in Highbridge where they will be performing, for the first time, Benjamin Brittens ‘St Nicolas’.

Also, £250 to South Somerset Mind who have clients across Sedgemoor including the Burnham-On-Sea area. The funding will be used to send support workers to clients to undertake home visits or a one to one basis.

Other groups receiving grants from the council include £210 for Sedgemoor Ramblers towards a walking festival; £2,500 to Nether Stowey Village Hall and Recreation Ground; £225 to wheelchair-bound photographer Sarah Darke for an arts display at Bridgwater Arts Centre gallery; and £1,100 to Cheddar Walking group for new information boards.
