Burnham-On-Sea pupils unveil sculpture made from glasses

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge youngsters have found a creative new use for their Comic Relief specs, creating an eye-catching sculpture.

Pupils from Highbridge’s King Alfred School visited the team at Specsavers on Burnham-On-Sea High Street to present their work of art, a giant smiling face, made from the Red Nose Day specs which were part of the ‘funny for money’ fundraising campaign.

Store director Rama Venkat says: “The sculpture looks fantastic – we’re so impressed by the creativity shown by the King Alfred’s students.”

“We’re always keen to support Comic Relief and have been pulling out all the stops in store over the last two weeks to raise as much money as we can for this fantastic charity.”

“Our pupils were really excited and enthused to take on this project, thank you so much to Specsavers in Burnham for providing this opportunity,” says Louise Amato, head of art at King Alfred School.

The store raised a total of £583 for Comic Relief following a week of fundraising activities as well as selling the official Red Nose Day comedy specs.

Specsavers in Burnham-On-Sea joined Specsavers stores nationwide to support Comic Relief to help poor and vulnerable people living tough lives both here in the UK and across Africa and pledged to raise at least £250,000 for the charity. Specsavers has been a Comic Relief partner since 2015.
