We’ve done it! Scouts celebrate completion of £12,000 roof project
Burnham-On-Sea Scouts are celebrating this week after completing a £12,000 fundraising campaign and project to replace their hall’s leaking roof.
Dozens of local individuals and companies came forward to donate the cash needed by the Scouts to complete the project at Burnham’s BASC Ground, which was launched in 2013.
The group’s Chairperson, Sarah Rendell, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “We’re so grateful to everyone who has helped us get to this stage. Our roof badly needed re-surfacing – it was peeling and rusty and was causing leaks inside our building. But now it’s been replaced, recoated and weather-proofed.”
“It’s a big relief to have this work done after 18 months of fundraising and work by many people here.”
She added : “I would like to thank William’s Roofing of Weston who have worked around our hall usage and have kept the disruption to a minimum. I would also like to thank the Ritz Social Club who held a Friday night Quiz in aid of our roof fund, HSBC, Hazel, Nick and Harvey Gardner and the Trinity Rise Christmas lights Appeal for their generous donation, Burnham Carnival and many other kind companies that have donated money.”
“The members of our Scout group and their friends and families who have helped and supported our fundraising events and contributed sponsorship money are also thanked. And special thanks goes to an anonymous local resident that kindly donated £500.”
“Thank you too to our acting Scout leader and all our leaders, assistant leaders, section assistants, parents, supporters, committee members and young people for all their dedicated hard work. Last, but no means least, special thanks go to our group Treasurer Karen Cutter and Martina Beard.”
