-

Over 40 Scouts from across Sedgemoor came together in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday night to compete in a district cooking competition.

The youngsters had 60 minutes to cook a two-course meal, using ingredients such as bacon, pasta, onions, cereal and chocolate.

12 year-old Laura and Anton from Burnham said: “We really enjoyed making chocolate coated bananas at our Scout camp in the summer, so decided to make them for the competition.”

Creative chefs Abbey, 13, and Daniel, 12, from Cannington (pictured right) came first in the competition with their own version of Gnocchi, consisting of small potato dumplings with tomato sauce, peppers and onions followed by a rocky road dessert.

Burnham Scout Group, pictured below, came second with their take on pasta bolognaise. North Petherton Scout group came third with their handmade meatballs consisting of mince, onion and tomato.

Jill Groves, the District Commissioner for Sedgemoor, thanked all the young people and adult volunteers that supported the event.

She said: “It has been great to see so many young people learning new skills and cooking to such a high standard.”

The top there groups will go forward to the county cooking competition which will be held in Frome early next year.
