Huntspill and Highbridge Scout Group are gearing up to launch their popular low-cost Christmas card delivery service across the Burnham-On-Sea area.
The service has been provided by the group for many years and is one of their key fundraising activities, requiring hours of work by the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their parents, as well as a group of dedicated helpers.
Cards are delivered to Pawlett, East and West Huntspill, Highbridge, Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow at a cost of just 20p per card.
“This annual service is not only our main fundraiser but is also seen as a service for the community. The Scouts have been busy getting all the boxes ready and the volunteers, parents and young members will all lend a hand to make sure that the cards are delivered by Christmas Eve,” one of the organisers, Sue Hunter, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.
The distinctive green Scout Post boxes are at the following businesses: Pawlett Stores and The Crossways Inn in West Huntspill; The Crown Stores in East Huntspill; Snippers Hairdressers, Highbridge DIY and Asda in Highbridge; Burnham Road Stores, and West Coast Properties, Thomas’s Shoe repairs, Lidl’s and Rectory Road Stores in Burnham. Cards can be posted in the boxes until 20th December.
Sue added: “Last year was our best year so far – we raised just under £1,000 – all of which goes into the group funds and helps to keep Scouting alive in our area. We are hoping that 2014 will be another bumper year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports our Scout Group by using this service and especially the businesses who allow our boxes to be placed in their premises.”
