Scouts launch 20p Christmas postal delivery service in Burnham area

-

Huntspill and Highbridge Scout Group have launched their popular low-cost Christmas card delivery service across the Burnham-On-Sea area.

The service has been provided by the group for over 20 years and is a key fundraiser, requiring hours of work by the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their parents, as well as a group of helpers.

Cards are delivered to Pawlett, East and West Huntspill, Highbridge, Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow at a cost of just 20p per card.

One of the organisers, Sue Hunter, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “This has become a real tradition within the Highbridge and Burnham area – our group has been doing this for approximately 25 years although no one is certain about the actual dates – it may be even longer!”

“The collection boxes are out in various shops and locations across Burnham, Highbridge, Pawlet, East & West Huntsill and Berrow. Cards can be put into the box with money (20p per card) between now and Friday 19th December. All will be delivered by Christmas Day by our group members, parents, committee and other willing volunteers.”

“This is a very important fund raiser for our group – last year we raised £1,000 and we hope to top that this year. Every penny raised goes into the group funds which enables us to heat and carry out general maintenance to our headquarters in Coronation Road, Highbridge and to maintain and replace essential equipment for use camping and out an about on scouting activities.”

“We get calls and enquiries from members of the public asking when the boxes are going out and checking that we are still doing this so we would like to thank everyone for supporting us – we view this not only as a fundraiser but as a community service!”
