Highbridge Scout HQ under threat by district council’s cost-cutting plans

-

A Scout group in Highbridge could be set to close if the district council proceeds with the possible disposal of its headquarters under cost-cutting plans.

The 1st Huntspill and Highbridge Scout HQ based in Coronation Road is included in a Sedgemoor District Council list of premises that could be sold to save cash.

The building has been used by the group for almost 50 years and features in the district council’s Asset Management Plan 2009-10, which was first published last November.

Paula Sanders, the group’s leader, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Everyone in the group is worried – we have heard nothing from the council about this formally and are concerned about what the future could have in store.”

But Doug Bamsey, Corporate Director at Sedgemoor, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Nothing has been decided yet – this is one of several properties that are being reviewed.”

“We review each asset and then outline what could or could not happen to it. There are no firm decisions as yet.”
