Retiring Burnham-On-Sea Scouts Chairman Alan Matthews was thanked for his 25 years of work with the group during a special presentation on Saturday (December 10th).
Alan was presented with a set of engraved glasses by Burnham’s Mayor, Michael Clarke, during a ceremony at the Scouts HQ at the town’s BASC Ground.
During his time as Treasurer and Chairman of 1st Burnham Scouts, he took a lead role in the fundraising campaign to secure £187,000 to enable the Scouts HQ to be built some 14 years ago.
“The campaign was very successful thanks to the support of many donors and a one-off legacy of £15,000,” Alan told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We raised the money over a five year period and I’m so pleased to see these super facilities actively being used by many children from across the Burnham area. It’s been a wonderful 25 years.”
Alan’s wife, Mary, was also thanked for her work over many years as leader of Burnham Beavers.
Saturday’s presentation took place during the Scout group’s annual Christmas Party, attended by over 100 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The winner of a design a badge competition was named as Spencer Stocks.
Money from the day went to the M5 crash appeal, helping families affected by November’s fatal crash.
