The family of a 10-year-old Burnham-On-Sea schoolgirl who has made and installed dog poo bag dispensers around the town says her daughter feels “very upset” after several dispensers were pulled down or burned.
Ivy Meager, 10, hit the headlines earlier this year when Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported that she had installed the dog poo bag dispensers made out of plastic drink bottles along paths around Burnham and Highbridge in a effort to reduce dog fouling.
Her initiative won the support of residents, but her mum, Cova Meager, says Ivy has been shocked after learning her dispensers have been pulled down or burned during the last few weeks.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “She’s very upset that they’ve been damaged and pulled down and thrown into people’s gardens.”
“Ivy is trying to replace them when she is able to empty a bottle.”
“She can’t understand why anyone would do this as she is only trying to help keep our town clean.”
Cova says that Ivy has had messages of support from people across the UK who say they are going to put dispensers up in their areas.
She is pleased that Burnham and Highbridge Town Council have agreed to install five dog dispensers at different locations around Burnham and Highbridge after being inspired by Ivy.
