Burnham school pupils celebrate county athletics championship win

Pupils at St Andrew’s School in Burnham-On-Sea are celebrating this week after winning Somerset’s Aviva County Sports Hall Athletics Finals.

The youngsters travelled to Strode College Sports Centre on Monday (February 6th) where they competed against six other primary schools from across the county.

“I am delighted and proud to tell you that we won! It was a fantastic day for our community,” head teacher Gavin Morris told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The team won the event with 248 points, 40 more than High Ham who were second.”

He added: “We now move into the regional finals when we will compete against other county champions from across the South West of England.”

“I cannot tell you how proud we all are of the team. It is a major achievement to be the best in Somerset at anything!”

Special praise was given to the school’s PE subject leader, Mrs Linda Sharpe, who gave up her free time to prepare the team. And all the parents who helped with transport, plus Mr Webb who drove and supplied the minibus, were also thanked.
