Burnham-On-Sea youngsters selected for 2018 School Games

-

Two youngsters from Burnham-On-Sea have been selected to compete at the 2018 School Games, a national multi-sport event for the UK’s most talented school-age athletes.

Tom Dollery, 16, will be part of the Athletics squad and Olivia Earthy, 14, has been selected to compete in the cycling.

Tom will compete for the England Midlands squad in the Javelin. He already has an impressive record of success, and will be representing English Schools at the next World Schools Championship in the Javelin.

Over 1,400 athletes will compete across 11 sports at the School Games at Loughborough University from 30th August to 2nd September.

The event will give many young people, across a variety of different sports, an experience of high-level competition in a multi-sport environment similar to an Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Olivia Earthy from Burnham-On-Sea has also been selected to compete in the Cycling at the 2018 School Games.

14-year-old Earthy, who is a student at Highbridge’s King Alfred School, represents Bristol Cycling Development Squad and will compete for England South West at the School Games. Earthy already has an impressive track record, including a top 20 finish at the National Circuit Series, but is also a talented triathlete.

Olivia will be following in the footsteps of some of Britain’s biggest sporting stars who have competed at the event before going on to senior international success.

“The School Games National Finals provide a great opportunity for talented young athletes like Tom,” says Ali Oliver, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Sport Trust.

“Competitors get a real taste of what it’s like to be part of a world-class sporting event at the amazing sporting venues of Loughborough University, and the event is a great way to see our future sporting champions in action today.”
