A rat catcher, Banksy and Prince William were among the dozens of carefully designed straw-filled characters that appeared across Brent Knoll at the weekend for the village’s annual scarecrow festival!

The organisers invited residents to produce characters with the theme of ‘jobs and occupations – past and present’.

And, once again, the villagers rose to the challenge – with a superbly varied range of around 60 imaginatively-designed scarecrows on display on Saturday and Sunday (September 23rd and 24th).

This year’s winners were: 1st: Rat Catcher (Gass and Marsh Families, pictured above), 2nd: Toothfairy (Brent area churches – toddler group, pictured below); and 3rd: Maitre d’Munro (Munro family).

A steady flow of visitors headed into the village to see the characters alongside road edges, gardens, walls and paths.

The festival – which helps to raise funds for Girlguiding Brent Knoll – was hailed a success by organisers.

“This is always a very creative event which involves residents and visitors alike, with some superb scarecrows to find,” said a spokeswoman.

“Once again the village warmly supported it with many wonderful characters on show!”
