In photos: Watchfield’s scarecrow festival hailed a success

It’s no surprise that there were few birds in Watchfield, near Burnham-On-Sea, on Saturday (June 20th) because the village was holding its annual scarecrow festival!

Colourful scarecrows created by local residents were hung outside homes and on signs and hedegrows across the village. This year’s theme was nursery rhymes.

One of the organisers, Keith Whitting, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve had a good turnout and lots of interest. Visitors were encouraged to walk or cycle around Watchfield to find as many of the scarecrows along the way.”

Those creating scarecrows this year included Sheelagh Vickery, Emily Cotton, Mary Chalker, Kevin and Jane Watts, Dot Robertson, Mary Nuttercombe, Mary Cornish, Keith Whitting, Robert Hall, Emma Reasons, Hether Bennett, Margaret Whitting, Philip George and Mary George.
