Two well-known sporting faces from Burnham-On-Sea were celebrating on Sunday (September 20th) after a momentous day at a leading event in France.
Mark and Sara Cox-Conklin, who run the Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, have been competing at the 11th annual World Biathle Championships in Monaco.
And on Sunday, Sara won a bronze medal while racing for Great Britain.
She completed her event – comprising a 1,000m run, a 100m swim and a 1,000m run – in an super-quick time.
That left her in the bronze medal position, meaning she only narrowly missed out the top two places.
Mark explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “She just missed the gold medal by four seconds and the silver by one second, but she’s still very pleased with a bronze.”
Sara raced her first biathle in May, and has won all of the British Series races this year at Milfield, Weymouth, Portland and Poole. She also won the Europa Cup in Italy in July.
Mark also gained selection to race for Great Britain at the World Championships, but was not as successful as Sara.
