Local cricket club and allotment society receive free saplings
East Huntspill Cricket Club and West Huntspill Allotment Society have been presented with free saplings this week thanks to a local garden.
East Huntspill Cricket Club has received 75 saplings from Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre garden centre near Taunton, while West Huntspill Allotment Society collected 100 young trees.
Derek Kidner, Club Chairman, explained: “We have an area in the corner of our cricket field that we would like to make into a secluded section for members and visitors to use.”
“The trees will be planted as a permanent reminder of those who have played and been a part of the East Huntspill Cricket Club during the past 30 years.”
“We are extremely grateful for Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre’s sapling donation and will use these trees to maintain our environmentally-friendly cricket club.”
West Huntspill Allotment Society will use the saplings to help develop its site. Stephen Chick, Chairman of West Huntspill Allotment Society, explained: “We have recently formed our allotment society and have planted a natural hedge on our grounds. We will use these trees to help enhance this area and maintain our environmentally-friendly village community.”
In January, Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre invited not-for-profit organisations that needed support for their conservation projects to apply for between 50 and 100 small saplings, known as whips.
