Burnham-On-Sea garden centre celebrates its fifth anniversary

-

Staff and customers at Sanders Garden World, near Burnham-On-Sea, will be celebrating the garden centre’s fifth birthday next week, March 14th.

The centre has played host to more than five million customers since opening in March 2001 and is marking its special anniversary with customer giveaways, special offers and a celebratory cake, which it will be sharing with visitors on the day.

Brothers Chris and Mike Sanders – well-known in the area for the supermarkets and market gardens they used to own – and brother and sister team Kerry and Michelle Michael launched the award-winning garden centre officially on March 14, 2001 (pictured).

Work started on the Greenfield site at Brent Knoll, just of junction 22 of the M5, in the summer of 2000. The first employee to join the business was horticulturalist Peter Burks in October 2000 as Managing Director.

The first 100 customers at 9am on the day and who attend the official birthday cake cutting by directors at 9.30am will be invited to have a free slice.

When the garden centre was launched, it was opened by ‘star for a day’ Corrine Thomas from Weston-super-Mare. Corrine, who is a nurse at Weston Hospital, was nominated by her husband and was joined at the event by three of her colleagues. 200 biodegradable balloons will be released at 3pm by her on the anniversary day.
