Sandcastle builders from across the west country are being sought to join a world record attempt on Burnham-On-Sea beach this Saturday (June 2nd).
As part of Burnham’s Jubilee Celebrations, an attempt to beat the world record of building more than 571 sandcastles in an hour will be held at 12.30pm.
The event will be held on the sand to the north of Burnham’s famous pier – and people of all ages are being urged to join in, free of charge.
Ian Jefferies, one of the organisers, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are looking for as many individuals, youth groups, schools and playgroups from across the area as possible to participate. We really want to make this a Jubilee to remember in Burnham and have high hopes the record can be broken. All we ask is that people bring along a spade with them.”
The event will also be raise money and awareness for The Coastguard Association, Burnham Area Rescue Boat hovercraft, Burnham Lions and the RNLI.
Anyone is invited to take part and after the record attempt, an afternoon of entertainment is being planned in Marine Cove Gardens.
All participants in the world record will receive a certificate of participation.
A video of how to make sandcastles – which have to be 2ft tall and 2ft wide with four towers in each corner – has been produced by the organisers and is shown on the right.
All participants in the world record attempt will receive a certificate of participation.
Burnham’s business community is supporting the event with backers including Sunspot Amusements, The Pavillion, The Oaktree, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Toy Cupboard, Seabreeze, Galley Cafe, Burnham-On-Sea.com, Skye Bar, Sedgemoor District Council and Burnham Swim Academy.
