Calm weather hits national sand yachting championships at Brean

-

Dozens of the UK’s top land yachting experts were left disappointed in Brean on Sunday (November 29th) when the UK’s national championships were cancelled because of a lack of wind.

After a week of storms, it was ironic that calm weather conditions meant only two of the scheduled nine races could be held on Saturday and Sunday. Organisers took the decision on Sunday lunchtime to abandon the event.

Ron Frewin of Brean Land Yacht Club (pictured above with club members) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been terrible weather for us. It was too windy to race first thing on Sunday, but by 10am when our races were due to get underway the wind just died and we couldn’t begin.”

Over 30 of the UK’s top land yachting enthusiasts were in Brean for the event. The village will next host a round of the national championships in March 2010.
