Bitterly cold winds and snow showers failed to put off 20 sand yachting enthusiasts from gathering at Brean, near Burnham-On-Sea, on Sunday March 12th.
The current leader of the British Land Yachting Championships, Martin Leach, pictured below, was in top form at the two-day event.
But the adverse conditions on Sunday morning – which included snow and heavy winds – meant the sand was too wet for some yachts.
Chief marshall Mike Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The surface was too wet for one of our three competition classes and it was unfortunately cancelled – but the other races went ahead as planned and we had a successful day.”
Mr Leach, who travelled from Ramsbottom in Lincolnshire to take part, said he was delighted to take first place in his new £3,500 land yacht.
“Brean is a great venue. The beach generally provides excellent conditions and the racing here is very equal, so everyone has a fair chance,” he said. “Once you’re out there, you soon forget the weather conditions.”
