2am call-out for Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards to help lady after fall

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 24th) to help a lady who had suffered a suspected broken ankle.

Coastguards from Burnham and Weston were called out at around 2am to assist South West Ambulance Service Trust after the lady, aged in her 20s, suffered the injury at Sand Point.

The Rescue 187 Coastguard helicopter was called to the scene due to the steep terrain to evacuate the casualty.

The helicopter touched down with the lady onboard on Weston’s seafront lawns, where a landing area had been prepared by Burnham Coastguards.

A waiting ambulance then drove her to Weston General Hospital for treatment.

“This was a successful multi-agency task using a number of assets to achieve the right outcome – and hopefully the residents of Weston seafront were not too disturbed by the helicopter landing in the early hours,” said a Burnham Coastguard spokesman.
