Burnham hardware shop to close down after 100 years of business

-

A long-running hardware shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea is set to shut down at the end of this month after almost 100 years of business.

Salways in Burnham’s Regent Street will close its doors for the final time at the end of December with the loss of three jobs, it has been confirmed this week.

Owner Colin Morris explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, the shop has not made a profit for around three years and we’ve made the decision to call it a day and close down.”

“It’s a sad time – the shop has been running for around 100 years in Burnham.”

“But the industry’s wholesalers have not helped us one bit. We haven’t been able to buy in bulk as we once used to.”

He added that increased competition in Burnham has also hurt trade in recent years.

Colin said that three jobs – two full-time positions and one part-time role – will sadly be lost.

“We really didn’t want to close it, but we can’t continue to keep it running at a financial loss. It’s a sad position.”

There are two other hardware stores in Burnham-On-Sea town centre – Home Hardware in the High Street and Proper Job in Adam Street.
