A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club on Sunday afternoon (August 4th) to mark the completion of a £26,000 project.
A brand new walkway onto the club’s pontoons in the River Brue was officially opened following a four-year project.
The walkway provides safe access onto the club’s pontoons across the muddy banks of the River Brue, replacing the old walkway that had been in place for many years.
The short ceremony was watched by around 20 club members and led by the Sailing Club’s Past President Tony Winterburn, pictured right, who cut the ribbon.
Club Commodore Rosaleen Cooper said: “It’s been a huge team effort – many members have contributed to to the building work over the past few years. I would like to especially thank Mike and Andy Packer, Andy Walker, Dave Chandler, Dave Humprey, Graham Wills, Bill Smart and Eric Torkildsen.”
Sailing Club President Dave Humprey added: “The new walkway is a huge improvement on the old one – it’s far safer and more secure. It will also allow members to get onto the pontoons even during very high tides.”
